Pesach and the Feast of Unleavened Bread

Pesach and the Feast of Unleavened Bread
Daniel ban Ya'acov Ysrael
1Co 5:7  Therefore cleanse out the old leaven, so that you are a new lump, as you are unleavened. For also Messiah our Passover was offered for us.
Joh 1:29  On the next day Yoḥanan saw יהושע coming toward him, and said, “See, the Lamb of Elohim who takes away the sin of the world!
Here we see Yeshua to be call the Lamb of El, sacrificed during the Feast of Pesach:
Lev 23:4  ‘These are the appointed times of יהוה, set-apart gatherings which you are to proclaim at their appointed times.
Lev 23:5  ‘In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, between the evenings*, is the Passover to יהוה.
Lev 23:6  ‘And on the fifteenth day of this month is the Festival of Unleavened Bread to יהוהseven days you eat unleavened bread.
Lev 23:7  ‘On the first day you have a set-apart gathering, you do no servile work.
* The term "between the evening" in Hebrew "ben HaArbayim". Yeshua explain that a day has 12 hours:
Joh 11:9  יהושע answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? .....................

In Hebrew understanding, a day count 12 hours and the night 12 hours. The day start at 6am to finish at 6pm (erev). Counting from 6am the 9th hour correspond to 3pm our time today and noon correspond to the 6th hour of the day.

Mat 27:45  And from the sixth hour (noon time) there was darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour (3pm).
Mat 27:46  And about the ninth hour יהושע cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Ěli, Ěli, lemah sheḇaqtani? that is, My Ěl, My Ěl, why have You forsaken Me?
Symbol and reality
For many believers, there are many difficulties to see what Yehowah did, due to false interpretation and sometime denial of interpretation of the scriptures, looking simply and alone to the p'shat (literal) level. Sha'ul who was perfectly knowledgeable in the Torah, having study at Gamaliel feet will bring a new dimension in the  mystery of the New Covenant:
Acts 22:1  “Men, brothers, and fathers, hear my defence before you now.”
Act 22:2  And when they heard that he spoke to them in the Heḇrew language,1 they kept greater silence. And he said:.
Act 22:3  “I am indeed a Yehuḏite, having been born in Tarsos of Kilikia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamli’ĕl, having been instructed according to the exactness of the Torah of our fathers, being ardent for Elohim, as you all are today,

Sha'ul explains one principle to understand how to interpret scriptures:
1Co 15:45  And so it has been written, “The first man Aḏam became a living being,” the last Aḏam a life-giving Spirit.
1Co 15:46  The spiritual, however, was not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.
1Co 15:47  The first man (Adam) was of the earth, earthy; the second Man is the Master from heaven.
1Co 15:48  As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly.
1Co 15:49  And as we have borne the likeness of the earthy, we shall also bear the likeness of the heavenly.
Here Sha'ul explains that there are two kind of people, the first be carnal the one who live with the first Adam nature, the second is spiritual, the one who has the nature of Mashiach.
At birth, we all have the nature of the first Adam and not the "original sin" inherit from Adam as taught by the Roman Catholic Church. We inherit the carnal nature from the first Adam which point to the necessity of Messiah in our life, because without him there is no way to become the perfect man intended by Yehowah.
And this is the reason:

Rom 8:29  Because those whom He knew beforehand, He also ordained beforehand to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, for Him to be the first-born among many brothers.
Tout
To be transformed in the image of Yeshua who himself is the image of Elohim:

Heb 1:1  Elohim, having of old spoken in many portions and many ways to the fathers by the prophets,
Heb 1:2  has in these last days spoken to us by the Son, whom He has appointed heir of all, through whom also He made the ages,
Heb 1:3  who being the brightness of the glory and the exact representation of His substance, and sustaining all by the word of His power, having made a cleansing of our sins through Himself, sat down at the right hand of the Greatness on high,

Image in Romans 8:29:
G1504 εἰκών eikon (ei-kone') n.
1. a likeness
2. (literally) statue, profile
3. (figuratively) representation, resemblance
In the book of Hebrew we find:
G5481
χαρακτήρ
charaktēr
From the same as G5482; a graver (the tool or the person), that is, (by implication) engraving ([“character”], the figure stamped, that is, an exact copy or [figuratively] representation): - express image.
In another place Sha'ul writes: "Mashiach in you, the hope of glory"

1Jn 3:2  Beloved ones, now we are children of Elohim. And it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
But let us go back to the Feast of the Unleavened Bread. The Torah as I have already say in other midrash is filled with symbols, euphemism, metaphors concerning Yeshua and the Assembly.
Egypte in the Torah is a microcosm of our world today. Pesach is the signal of delivrance proclamed by Yehowah for his children. In the Torah Pesach represent a physical delivrance by the hand of Moshe a forerunner of Maschiach. For us today our delivrance is spiritual who deliver us from the power of sin (rebellion against the Torah). This rebellion is point to the nature of the first Adam purely carnal.
The text and application:

Exo 12:1  Yehowah dit à Moïse et à Aaron dans le pays d'Égypte And יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon in the land of Mitsrayim, saying,:
Calendrier Hébreux:
Exo 12:2  “This month is the beginning of months for you, it is the first month of the year for you.
Exo 12:3 “Speak to all the congregation of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘On the tenth day of this month each one of them is to take for himself a lamb (symbol used by Yochanan the immerser in Yochanan1:36), according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household.

Joh 1:36  and looking at יהושע walking, he said, “See the Lamb of Elohim!”
.

Exo 12:4  ‘And if the household is too small for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next to his house take it according to the number of the beings, according to each man’s need you make your count for the lamb.

Exo 12:5  ‘Let the lamb be a perfect one, a year old male. Take it from the sheep or from the goats.
Exo 12:6 ‘And you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then all the assembly of the congregation of Yisra’ĕl shall kill it between the evenings (ben HaArbyim in Hebreuw).

Exo 12:7  ‘And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts* and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it.
*The door post a metaphor for the heart.
Exo 12:8  ‘And they shall eat the flesh on that night, roasted in fire – with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.

Yeshua explains the mmeaning in its Hebraic context:
Joh 6:54  “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood possesses everlasting life, and I shall raise him up in the last day.
Joh 6:55  “For My flesh is truly food, and My blood is truly drink.
Joh 6:56  “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood stays in Me, and I in him.
Joh 6:57  “As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me shall live because of Me.
Here a metaphor from many misunderstood. The idea of "eating" is directly connected with the action of taking part and thus to associate one with the center of the action. We find the same metaphor with the priests taking part of the sacrifices.

Lev 6:24  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Lev 6:25   “Speak to Aharon and to his sons, saying, ‘This is the Torah of the sin offering: In the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, the sin offering is slaughtered before יהוה, it is most set-apart.

Lev 6:26  The priest who is making atonement eats it, in the set-apart place it is eaten, in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting.
Lev 6:27  ‘All that touches its flesh is to be set-apart. And when its blood is sprinkled on any garment, you wash that on which it was sprinkled, in a set-apart place.
Who are the priest nowaday?
1Pe 2:9  But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light,
1Pe 2:10  who once were not a people, but now the people of Elohim; who had not obtained compassion, but now obtained compassion.
1Pe 2:11  Beloved ones, I appeal to you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts which battle against the life,
Pesach the transition from a life in this world to a life in Mashiach after the inner man, the spiritual.
Yehowah fore told His plan of redemption to Moshe before. This plan is build on 4 steps:
Exo 6:6  “Say, therefore, to the children of Yisra’ĕl, ‘I am יהוה, and (1) I shall bring you out from under the burdens of the Mitsrites, and (2)shall deliver you from their enslaving, and (3)shall redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments,
Exo 6:7  (4)and shall take you as My people, and I shall be your Elohim. And you shall know that I am יהוה your Elohim who is bringing you out from under the burdens of the Mitsrites.
Exo 6:8  ‘And I shall bring you into the land which I swore to give to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Yaʽaqoḇ, to give it to you as an inheritance. I am יהוה.’ ”
1 Delivrance by the hand of Moshe: Act 7:35  “This Mosheh whom they had refused, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ – this one Elohim sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Messenger who appeared to him in the bush.
2Co 1:10  who rescued us from so great a death, and does rescue, in whom we trust that He shall still rescue us,
Gal 1:4  who gave Himself for our sins, to deliver us out of this present wicked age, according to the desire of our Elohim and Father,
Col 1:13  who has delivered us from the authority of darkness and transferred us into the reign of the Son of His love,
- 2 Sanctification:

1Co 1:30  And of Him you are in Messiah יהושע, who became for us wisdom from Elohim, righteousness also, and sanctification and redemption,

- 3 Rédemption by the blood of Mashiach:
1Pe 1:18  knowing that you were redeemed from your futile way of life inherited from your fathers, not with what is corruptible, silver or gold,
Rev 5:9  And they sang a renewed song, saying, “You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals, because You were slain, and have redeemed us to Elohim by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

;
- 4 Finalité. Wenn Yehowah will be among his people:
Rev 21:1  And I saw a renewed heaven and a renewed earth, for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea is no more.
Rev 21:2  And I, Yoḥanan, saw the set-apart city, renewed Yerushalayim, coming down out of the heaven from Elohim, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3  And I heard a loud voice from the heaven saying, “See, the Booth of Elohim is with men, and He shall dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and Elohim Himself shall be with them and be their Elohim.

These 4 steps are found in Mashiach Yeshua:
1 Délivrance, Mashiach deliver us from sin (the world system today calling evil good and good evil Isa.5:20, 13:11)
2 Sanctification. Yehowah turns us back (shuv in Hebrew) to the Torah in order to sanctify us. (Rom. 12:1-2)
3 Rédemption (down payment) 1.Kefa/Peter 1:18.
4 Finality. When Yeshua turn over the Kingdom to  Yehowah the Father:
1Co 15:22  For as all die in Aḏam, so also all shall be made alive in Messiah .
1Co 15:23  And each in his own order: Messiah the first-fruits, then those who are of Messiah at His coming,
1Co 15:24  then the end, when He (Yeshua) delivers up the reign to Elohim the Father, when He (Yeshua) has brought to naught all rule and all authority and power.
1Co 15:25  For He (Yeshua) has to reign until He (Yehowah) has put all enemies under His(Yeshua) feet.
1Co 15:26  The last enemy to be brought to naught is death.
1Co 15:27  For “He (Yehowah) has put all under His (Yeshua) feet.” But when He says “all are put under Him (Yeshua),” it is clear that He (Yehowah) who put all under Him (Yeshua) is excepted.
1Co 15:28  And when all are made subject to Him (Yeshua), then the Son Himself shall also be subject to Him (Yehowah) who put all under Him (Yeshua), in order that Elohim be all in all.
This text seems a bit unclear, but by looking closer demonstrate that Yeshua is not the Father and that Yehowah is greater than Mashiach.
Exo 12:9  ‘Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted in fire, its head with its legs and its inward parts.
Exo 12:10  ‘And do not leave of it until morning, and what remains of it until morning you are to burn with fire.
Exo 12:11  ‘And this is how you eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the Passover of יהוה.
Exo 12:12  ‘And I shall pass through the land of Mitsrayim on that night, and shall smite all the first-born in the land of Mitsrayim, both man and beast. And on all the mighty ones of Mitsrayim I shall execute judgment. I am יהוה.
Exo 12:13  ‘And the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I shall pass over you, and let the plague not come on you to destroy you when I smite the land of Mitsrayim.
Yeshua explain the meaning of the blood:
Joh 6:55  “For My flesh is truly food, and My blood is truly drink.

Yeshua nous donne l'explication du sang:
Joh 6:55  Car ma chair est vraiment une nourriture, et mon sang est vraiment un breuvage (symbole, métaphore de l'alliance).
Sha'ul explains also:
1Co 10:16  The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Messiah? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Messiah?
Rom 3:25  whom Elohim set forth as an atonement, through belief in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His tolerance Elohim had passed over the sins that had taken place before,
Rom 5:9  Much more then, having now been declared right by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Exo 12:14  ‘And this day shall become to you a remembrance. And you shall observe it as a festival to יהוה throughout your generations – observe it as a festival, an everlasting law.

Mitzvot/Commandment:
Exo 12:15  ‘Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. Indeed on the first day you cause leaven to cease from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that being shall be cut off from Yisra’ĕl.
Exo 12:16  ‘And on the first day is a set-apart gathering (Shabbaton), and on the seventh day you have a set-apart gathering. No work at all is done on them, only that which is eaten by every being, that alone is prepared by you.
Exo 12:17  ‘And you shall guard the Festival of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I brought your divisions out of the land of Mitsrayim. And you shall guard this day throughout your generations, an everlasting law.

When and how long:
Exo 12:18  ‘In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, you shall eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month in the evening.
Exo 12:19  ‘For seven days no leaven is to be found in your houses, for if anyone eats what is leavened, that same being shall be cut off from the congregation of Yisra’ĕl, whether sojourner or native of the land.
Double mitzvot: "do not" and "you shall":
Exo 12:20  ‘Do not eat that which is leavened – in all your dwellings you are to eat unleavened bread.’ ”
Exo 12:21  And Mosheh called for all the elders of Yisra’ĕl and said to them, “Go out and take lambs for yourselves according to your clans, and slaughter the Passover lamb.

Symbols:
Using the blood of the Lamb to apply on the door post a metaphor for the heart (atonement). The blood is also a metaphor for the blood of the renewed covenant in Mashiach:
Mat 26:27  And taking the cup, and giving thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.
Mat 26:28  “For this is My blood, that of the renewed covenant, which is shed for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Exo 12:22  “And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin, and you, none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning.
Exo 12:23  “And יהוה shall pass on to smite the Mitsrites, and shall see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and יהוה shall pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to smite you.
Torah has never been abolish

Exo 12:24  “And you shall guard this word as a law for you and your sons, forever.
Exo 12:25  “And it shall be, when you come to the land which יהוה gives you, as He promised, that you shall guard this service.
Memorial for the next generations:
Exo 12:26  “And it shall be, when your children say to you, ‘What does this service mean to you?’
Exo 12:27  then you shall say, ‘It is the Passover slaughtering of יהוה, who passed over the houses of the children of Yisra’ĕl in Mitsrayim when He smote the Mitsrites and delivered our households.’ ” And the people bowed their heads and did obeisance.
Obeisance:
Exo 12:28  And the children of Yisra’ĕl went away and did so – as יהוה had commanded Mosheh and Aharon, so they did.
Sha'ul  explains how to celebrate:
1Co 11:23  For I received from the Master that which I also delivered to you: that the Master יהושע in the night in which He was delivered up took bread,
1Co 11:24  and having given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat, this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
1Co 11:25  In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the renewed covenant in My blood. As often as you drink it, do this in remembrance of Me.”
1Co 11:26  For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Master until He comes.
1Co 11:27  So that whoever should eat this bread or drink this cup of the Master unworthily shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Master.
1Co 11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup.
1Co 11:29  For the one who is eating and drinking unworthily, eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Master.
1Co 11:30  Because of this many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.
1Co 11:31  For if we were to examine ourselves, we would not be judged.

Sha'ul mention the violation and encourage toward purity:

1Co 5:4  In the Name of our Master יהושע Messiah, when you are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Master יהושע Messiah,
1Co 5:5  deliver such a one to Satan for destruction of the flesh, in order that his spirit be saved in the day of the Master יהושע.
1Co 5:6  Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the entire lump?
1Co 5:7  Therefore cleanse out the old leaven, so that you are a new lump, as you are unleavened. For also Messiah our Passover was offered for us.
1Co 5:8  So then let us observe the festival, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of evil and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

,
Yeshua point to the leaven of the Pahrisee and saduccees:
Mat 16:6  And יהושע said to them, “Mind! And beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”
Mat 16:11  “How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread, but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?”
Mat 16:12  Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.

There is the paradigm of the Feast of Unleavened Bread: To live a life far from hypocrisies like the Pharisee and Saducees

How to celebrate:
As we have seen, Pesach is a memorial and start the 14th days of the first month in the Hebrew calendar (2012 April 5) between the two evening/ ben HaArbayim, so around 3pm. The evening staring at noon in Hebraic understanding, but in reality start at sunset of the 13th and goes to from sunset to dusk. So indeed Yeshua celebrated the Feast of Pesach with his talmidim.
The memorial include to eat bread and to drink wine (symbol of the blood of Mashiach). We read Matt. Chapter 26 and 27 during this moment in an attitude of humility and gratfulness knowing what Yeshua endured for all of us at this very time.
Breaking of the bread  and reading the verses: Matt.26:26
Taking the cup and passing from one to another after having read the verses concerning the wine (Matt.26:27-28)
From this time we eat during 7 days Unleavened Bread
The memorial will lead to the sunset, the beginning of the First day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Memorial of the coming out of Mitzaryim/Egypt (literal and spiritual)
Exo 34:18  “Guard the Festival of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, in the appointed time of the month of Aḇiḇ, because in the month of Aḇiḇ you came out from Mitsrayim.
Deu 16:3  “Eat no leavened bread with it. For seven days you eat unleavened bread with it, bread of affliction, because you came out of the land of Mitsrayim (world od sin) in haste – so that you remember the day in which you came out of the land of Mitsrayim, all the days of your life.
Deu 16:4  “And no leaven should be seen with you in all your border for seven days, neither should any of the meat which you slaughter in the evening on the first day stay all night until morning.

Few verses to mediate:
1Co 5:2  And you have been puffed up, and did not rather mourn, so that he who has done this deed, be removed from among you!
1Co 15:33  Do not be led astray, “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
Gal 5:9  A little leaven leavens all the lump.

InIndeed Yeshua KEPT THE PESACH with his disciples on the 14th at sunset (between the two evenings), the day starting at sunset. Unlike the Pharisee who had changed the Feast and Postponed to the night of the 15th starting between noon and sunset.

07:40

Indeed Yeshua KEPT THE PESACH with his disciples on the 14th at sunset (between the two evenings), the day starting at sunset. Unlike the Pharisee who had changed the Feast and Postponed to the night of the 15th starting between noon and sunset.

May Yehowah the Father of our Master Yeshua HaMashiach be with you all and bless your Feats aboundantly.
